CamAlien featured on Belgian national television

16.09.2025

On 27 August, a media feature on the CamAlien was shown on Belgian national television, bringing attention to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the detection of invasive alien species. INBO researcher and OneSTOP member Soria Delva explained how the CamAlien uses AI to automatically identify and map invasive species along waterways and canals, marking an important step forward in ecological management.

Her INBO colleague Bram D’hondt illustrated this by noting invasive species that can be spotted along Belgian canals, such as Robinia pseudoacacia, while Piet Thys of De Vlaamse Waterweg emphasised the ecological and practical problems such invasives create. The CamAlien will continue its real-world validation during the second session of the Belgian Living Lab, which will take place on 21 October.
