Data Management for Invasive Alien Species: Connecting Local Needs and Global Challenges

10.11.2025

On 20 October 2025, OneSTOP members took part in the meeting “Data Management of Invasive Alien Species: Exchange of Local Needs and Global Challenges”. This one-day meeting brought together Colombian and European experts to share experiences and discuss local and global challenges related to data management approaches and constraints to effectively control biological invasions. Organised as a preparatory event for Living Data 2025, the session welcomed more than 60 participants both in person and online.

The program featured presentations from six national (Colombian) and four international experts (from Belgium, Portugal, Germany, and Romania), representing academia, research projects (OneSTOP and B-Cubed), and government agencies (such as the Colombian Ministry of Environment, Bogota’s Environmental Agency) involved in the research and management of invasive alien species.

The event provided a valuable space for dialogue among key stakeholders, enabling the exchange of tools, methodologies, and case studies aimed at strengthening data sharing and improving the accessibility, quality, and use of information on invasive alien species. This collaborative environment highlighted the importance of aligning needs that arise from species control in the field with global strategies, in order to support more effective monitoring, prevention, and management efforts. Another key element that emerged from the discussions was the need to strengthen collaboration between science and policy, to enable more timely and informed decision-making.
