New video gives insights on how EASIN helps manage biological invasions
In the last edition of #IntroducingOneSTOP, Ana Cristina Cardoso from the European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN) explains their approach in dealing with invasive alien species.
EASIN is established by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission as the information system aiding the implementation of EU’s legal framework on invasive alien species. It is an online platform that combines data available from various sources, provides tools for citizen science, manages the official EU early-warning system and enhances the early detection of IAS of Union concern. For example, the Species Search and Mapping Tool allows users to track the distribution of alien species listed under the Union List across Europe. Additionally, the IAS Notification System enables EU countries to report new sightings and the measures taken to control IAS.
OneSTOP works closely with EASIN to achieve an enhanced management of biological invasions. The Network aims at helping OneSTOP, and its sister project - GuardIAS, to be better prepared not only to manage species already detected, but also to prevent their introduction in the relevant territories.
